"Guardian Girls Global Karate Project to be presented at Residence of Japan's Ambassador to Spain"

 

MADRID, March 17, 2023 -- Created by UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, the Koyamada International Foundation (KIF), and the World Karate Federation (WKF), the Guardian Girls Global Karate Project is a far-reaching action to promote gender equality and empower women and girls to defend themselves from all forms of Gender-Based Violence through Karate training. The programme will be introduced in Spain on the occasion of the celebration in Guadalajara of the 2023 European Karate Championships from March 22 to 26.

The Guardian Girls Global Karate Project will be unveiled at an official reception to be held at the Residence of the Japanese Ambassador in Madrid on Friday, March 24. 

National officials, media outlets, and representatives of UNFPA, KIF, WKF, and the Spanish Karate Federation are expected to attend the reception which will be hosted by the Ambassador of Japan to Spain, Mr Nakamae Takahiro.

In addition to the presentation of the event at the Residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Spain, the events of the Guardian Girls Global Karate Project will continue Saturday, March 25 with a self-defence Karate Seminar for local women in Guadalajara.

Lastly, a special demonstration to showcase Karate’s social contribution to eradicating Gender-Based Violence will take place at the Palacio Multiusos sports hall of Guadalajara on Saturday, March 25 during the finals of the European Karate Championships. Televised live on many TV networks around the world and on the WKF YouTube channel, the demonstration aims to introduce the initiative to a worldwide audience.

The Guardian Girls Global Karate Project was premiered in October 2022 in Los Angeles (United States). After an official presentation at the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, the pilot seminar of Guardian Girls Global Karate was held at the Terasaki Budokan of Los Angeles to help women in the Los Angeles area to face situations of Gender-Based Violence through Karate training.

Following the success of the activities in Los Angeles, the first event of the Guardian Girls Global Karate Project this year was hosted in Cairo on the occasion of the Karate 1-Premier League event.

The event was officially unveiled at a reception in the residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, Oka Hiroshi on Saturday, January 28. Previously, a women’s self-defence Seminar was held in Cairo, with the participation of a group of young women from Egypt.

Lastly, a demonstration of Karate self-defence for women wrapped up the activities in Cairo. The demonstration took place at the Cairo International Stadium during the finals of the Karate 1-Premier League.
