Guardian Girls Karate Seminar Launched in Spain

In global efforts to combat gender-based violence as part of the Guardian Girls Global Karate Project, the World Karate Federation (WKF), Koyamada International Foundation (KIF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) brought together women from Guadalajara and Madrid area to empower them in defending from gender-based violence through their Guardian Girls Karate Women's Self-Defense Seminar held in the City of Guadalajara, Spain on Saturday, March 25th, 2023. The seminar was headed by the chair of the Department of Women and Sport of the Spanish Karate Federation, Teresa Garcia Pérez.

Guardian Girls-certified WKF Instructor Teresa García Pérez said:

“If the participants leave today with the notions that women are not weak, that we women can defend ourselves, and that our biggest allay is our head, then we will feel that our time today would have been worthy.

“Karate is a way of life, and it brings many values to all those who practise it. These values are extremely useful to society nowadays. A society that respects itself is a society that lives much better together”.

Held during the final bouts of the EKF Senior Championships on Saturday afternoon and broadcast live on a number of TV networks around the world and the WKF YouTube channel, the demonstration of Karate techniques and their application to women’s self-defence wrapped up the activities in Spain.

The demonstration was conducted by WKF Instructor Teresa García Pérez and assistant Sonia Buitrón, with the cooperation of Agustin García, Héctor San Miguel, and Jesús Rodríguez.

Through a display of some of the most frequent situations of violence against women, the efficiency of Karate was showcased as the participants demonstrated simple but effective solutions to confront these acts of violence.
