GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV)
The United Nations characterizes gender-based violence as any form of violence targeting women and girls due to their gender. This includes actions resulting in, or likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering.
- Globally, an estimated 736 million women—almost 1 in 3—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life (30% of women aged 15 and older).
- 65 % of all women have experienced street harassment. Among all women, 23 % have been sexually touched, 20 % have been followed, and 9 % have been forced to do something sexual.

Testimonials
It felt very natural, it felt very intuitive, and the moves were easy for anybody to understand, and you can do it at any level. I think that if I am ever confronted with a dangerous situation, I will have the strength to be able to defend myself by knowing that my power is within my body, and that is extremely empowering.
By going through the training, I have a greater sense of control over what I should be doing. I actually feel more confident. Many women and girls going through this would gain the same sense of confidence. Not just learning about it, but actually hands-on doing it; that makes a big difference.
I'm proud to see Guardian Girls here in Los Angeles continuing to build women's resilience and strength to protect themselves against gender-based violence. We wanted to provide a tool for women to be empowered to have both strength, mind and body to protect themselves from being exposed to violence.
