Guardian Girls Aikido Seminar Empowers Women in Colombia 🇨🇴

In continuation of the signing of the national Memorandum of Understanding between KIF Colombia and the Colombia Aikido Federation (FCA) at the Official Residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Colombia, they inaugurated the "Guardian Girls Aikido Seminar" at the Centro del Japón, Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. The seminar comprised three integral parts, including greetings by the organizers, an Aikido-based self-defense session, and a presentation addressing gender-based violence.

At the Centro del Japón, over 40 women from the Bogotá area who had pre-registered enthusiastically participated in the free seminar. The Guardian Girls Aikido Seminar commenced with its emcee and KIF Colombia's Board member, Paula Esguerra. This was followed by opening remarks from Mr. Masahiro Takasugi, the Japanese Ambassador to Colombia; Mr. Luis Mora, the Country Representative of UNFPA Colombia; Ms. Nia Lyte, President of KIF Colombia and Guardian Girls International; and Abraham Builes Mesa, President of the Colombia Aikido Federation (FCA).

The seminar was conducted by the principal Guardian Girls Aikido Instructor, Luz Angélica Jiménez, who possesses a rich background in teaching self-defense and holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Aikido. Assisted by Carolina Céspedes Quiroz (3rd Degree), Sandra Lugo (2nd Degree), and Andrea Jimenez Guerrero (3rd Degree), all donned in red t-shirts, the instructors shared Aikido-based self-defense techniques and mental training during the 90-minute session.

Following the self-defense seminar, UNFPA Colombia delivered a 15-minute presentation on gender-based violence in Colombia to the women participants.
